Concrete Field Testing
Technician – Grade I is
an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability
to properly perform
and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed
concrete.
Several
ASTM and ACI standards stipulate this certification as a requirement:

The program requires a working knowledge of the following ASTM
test methods:
C 1064, Temperature of Freshly Mixed Portland-Cement Concrete,
C 172, Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete
C 143, Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete
C 138, Unit Weight, Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric)
of Concrete
C 231, Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Pressure
Method
C 173, Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the
Volumetric Method
C 31, Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field

pass any one standard
If
any one standard is failed on the performance
examination, all seven
standards must be re-tested
If either the written or the performance examination is failed,
the examinee has one year to pass the failed examination to become
certified.
CAB
offers examination for Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade
I monthly, with the exception of one or two months of the
year. In general, the examinations are conducted in metropolitan
Atlanta. But with a sufficient number of examinees, and by prior
arrangement, the examination may be conducted in any part of
Georgia.
WORKSHOP:
A four-hour workshop is offered the week prior to each Concrete
Field Testing Technician examination. The workshop includes
the use of a video demonstrating the performance of each of
the ASTM
standards, a comprehensive review of each of the printed standards
and sample questions. Substantial additional study by the candidate
will also be necessary.
